Sun and Sand

Tenerife’s many beaches are fine examples of its great natural diversity. In the south there are mainly golden sand beaches, while in the north you can find beaches with shimmering, black, volcanic sand. Also in the north, there are a number of natural pools formed by ancient volcanic eruptions producing lava flows that reached the sea. The Canarians have also created swimming areas such as the complex of swimming pools at Lago Martiánez, the great work of the dearly remembered architect and artist César Manrique.

The variety of beaches in Tenerife is not only a question of the sand colour. Some beaches are popular and lively with a full range of facilities, while others are hidden and isolated. There are also beaches that are quiet and relaxing where the whole family can take a dip in the sea, while others are more rugged and untamed and popular amongst surfers. There are even quiet, undisturbed nudist beaches. All these beaches guarantee the same crystal-clear waters due to the ocean currents of the Atlantic.

Strolling by the sea

May 26, 2008

Strolling along the seafront must be one of the most pleasant ways to enjoy your holiday in Tenerife. At any time of the day the gentle sea breeze and warm sunshine makes this simple leisure activity a real pleasure. There are countless seafront promenades that run along a large part of Tenerife’s 400-kilometer coast and most of these have recently been renovated. You can go for a walk, do sport or simply sit and watch the world go by.
